Child Life
Child Life Specialists are experts in child development, who promote effective coping through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities. They provide emotional support for families, and encourage optimum development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization. Child Life staff work closely with the health care team to provide the highest quality of care for children. They also provided age appropriate education to patients regarding their health and or health care experience.
Nutrition Services
Many children seeing a 'Specially For Children provider have medical conditions which may compromise their nutritional status. A dietitian is available to all 'Specially For Children patients to ensure optimal nutrition required for development and growth. The nutrition assessment is individualized to address the unique needs of each child. Family input is an integral part in establishing patient feeding goals. Our dietitian coordinates with state and local resources to assist families in obtaining nutritional supplements and therapies.
Social Services
Many of the children who see a 'Specially For Children provider are dealing with a serious chronic illness and are in need of a great deal of information and support. Other patients may come in once or twice but not have any ongoing medical issues. A social worker is available to all 'Specially for Children patients and families to assist with resource linkage, emotional support, referral to mental health services, obtaining supplies and equipment, school related issues, information for uninsured and underinsured patients, and diagnosis specific support services.
